How it works

On this page, we'll explain in a few simple steps how to repair your alloy wheel damage with Recarfix. Below, you'll find a clear instructional video, the Do's & Don'ts, and a written explanation.

If you're not entirely sure, you can always book an appointment at our workshop in Haarlem. We'll be happy to help you with confirming the patches there.

Before you start, the Do's & Don'ts

Recarfix instruction video

In our instructional video, we explain how to repair rim damage with the Recarfix Patch in a few simple steps. Of course, we've also written down the explanation for you below.

1. Localise the damage

It's a doddle, but before you start, it's a good idea to determine the extent of the damage. If the scratch is a bit deeper, you might also need to sand it down a bit. Make sure you have all the materials to hand beforehand: alloy wheel cleaner (a simple degreaser is sufficient), sandpaper if necessary (grit 120), a hairdryer to warm the rim and, of course, the Recarfix patch. You'll achieve the best results at an outside temperature between 15°C and 30°C.

2. Clean the rim

Start by thoroughly cleaning and drying the rim where you intend to apply the Recarfix patch. If the damage has deeper scratches or raised points, you can lightly sand the scratch with sandpaper (grain 120). The smoother the surface, the better the result. If you prefer not to sand your rim directly, apply a patch as described in this guide and assess the result. If any points or scratches are still visible through the patch, you can always remove the patch, sand the rim, and apply a new one. Degrease and dry the rim thoroughly again after washing and/or sanding so that the patch can adhere optimally.

Step 3: Apply the Recarfix patch

Begin by heating the section of the rim where you intend to apply the patch. This can be done with a regular hairdryer and is important for optimal adhesion of the patch. Take 1-2 minutes for this to ensure the rim is sufficiently warm. Carefully remove the Recarfix patch from the patch sheet and apply it to the edge of the rim, gently pressing with your finger. Do this again to ensure there are no air bubbles left under the patch.

4. Let the patch adhere

Reheat the patch again with a hairdryer for optimal adhesion. Press the patch down firmly.

After application, you can use your car straight away. However, wait 48 hours before washing your car so the patch can bond properly. Is it colder than 15°C at night? For the best (long-lasting) result, park the car indoors for the first night. If this is not possible, use a hairdryer for 5 minutes on the patch so it can bond optimally.
